GRAEME THOMSON MEMORIAL REPORT

This is what we have coming up for the rest of 2014.

SEE BELOW FOR A BRIEF REPORT ON THE GRAEME THOMSON MEMORIAL RAPIDPLAY.

6-8 June  STEVE BONIFACE MEMORIAL CONGRESS                       HOLIDAY INN, BRISTOL

Saturday 26th Oct.  CHIPPING SODBURY RAPIDPLAY           OLD GRAMMAR SCHOOL, C.S.

These are booked. There are also likely to be the following on dates yet to be confirmed.

SOUTH BRISTOL RAPIDPLAY (August?)                        WHITCHURCH FOLK HOUSE, BRISTOL

HARAMBEE RAPIDPLAY    (September?)                        MALCOLM X CENTRE, BRISTOL

We finished up with 38 players in the GT Mem, 20 in the Open and 18 in the Major (U145).

The Open was of course keenly contested, but the three IMs came out at the top. James Cobb of Clifton won the event with 5/6, Jim Sherwin (Bath) was second with 4½, and Charlie Cobb from Wales, Henry Duncanson (University), Derek Pugh (Horfield) and Chris Timmins (Bristol) finished joint third with 4. I know Stuart Iles of Clevedon won one of the grading prizes, but I can't remember who won the other. I'll update it when I can.
In the Major, it was even closer, with 3 players finishing equal 1st on 5/6. They were all local - Neil Derrick (Cabot), Alan Papier (Clifton) and Anthony Carver of Hanham. One grading prize was won by Steve Woolgar of Patchway (4), and the other was shared by Antony Sage (Bath) and Martyn Maber (Taunton), both on 3 points. An enjoyable day, and my thanks to Geoff Gammon for controlling the Open section.
